Milwaukee Brewers: Brewers Gloomy 6-4 loss to Padres

In the first two games of the four-game series, the Milwaukee Brewers lost 7-6 and 9-5 to the San Diego Padres. Milwaukee wanted to even the series and win the final two games. However, the Padres had other plans: take and maintain second place in the NL West. San Diego led 6-0 after seven innings of action, the Brewers rallied in the top of the ninth inning and scored four runs, but it wasn’t enough as the Padres scored 6-4 win.

The scoring in this game began in the bottom of the third inning when Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill hit a three-run home run straight to center field. In the next inning, Padres hitter Ha-Seong Kim hit a solo shot to left field to give San Diego a 4-0 lead. Two innings later, Padres catcher Kyle Higashioka ripped a two-run home run to left field. San Diego was already leading 6-0 and it seemed like the game was over.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, with outs and the bases loaded, Brewers second baseman Brice Turang hit a massive shot to left field to cut the Padres’ deficit to 6-4. On the next at-bat, Brewers catcher William Contreras struck out Padres reliever Robert Suárez, ending the game with the ball. After this loss, Milwaukee’s record is now 44-33. They have a five-game advantage in the NL Central League. San Diego is currently 41-40 and is second in the NL West in games played, seven and a half games behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers.

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Carlos Rodríguez threw four innings. He allowed four runs on six hits while striking out two batters in the loss. Brice Turang went three-for-four with four RBIs. First baseman Tyler Black and third baseman Joey Ortiz also had multi-hit streaks in which they played two-for-four. The Brewers need to pick up a few wins before the Cardinals close out the playoffs to stay comfortable in the division.

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Randy Vasquez threw five innings. He allowed just five hits and three walks while striking out three batters to assist the team win. Jackson Merrill went three-for-three with three RBIs, while Ha-Seong Kim went two-for-three with an RBI. Even though each team had ten shots, San Diego had more clutch opportunities and was able to rally for its fourth straight victory.
