The Milwaukee Brewers began their four-game series with the Colorado Rockies on Monday. In the first game, Milwaukee suffered a heartbreaking 8-7 loss. Last night, in the top of the ninth inning, the Brewers were down 3-2 but came away with a two-run win 4-3 away win. This evens the series at one match apiece.
Milwaukee earned its 51st win of the season and has a six-point lead over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. The Rockies suffered their 55th loss of the season and are 23 points behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.
Milwaukee Brewers Mischievous beat Rockies 4-3
In the top of the second inning, Brewers right fielder Sal Frelick smacked an RBI single to right field to give Milwaukee its first score of the game. In the bottom of the second inning, Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle hit his third home run in the last two games. Two batters later, Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia hit a sacrifice fly to give Colorado an early lead. It wasn’t until the top of the seventh inning that the score evened again. Brewers second baseman Brice Turang smacked an RBI double to right field.
Brewers win thanks to two runs scored early in the 9th inning
Colorado took the lead again in the bottom of the eighth inning when Brenton Doyle hit an RBI double to left-center field. With one out and the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, Willy Adames hit the tying sacrifice fly. Two batters later, pinch-hitting first baseman Rhys Hoskins was hit by a pitch from Rockies reliever Justin Lawrence. That allowed the Brewers to take a 4-3 lead and ultimately win.
Brewers’ top players win 4-3
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel made his second start for the team after being traded to the Seattle Mariners. In five and a third innings, Keuchel allowed two runs on four hits and two walks and struck out five. Brewers designated hitter Christian Yelich was three-for-five, while Willy Adames was two-for-three with an RBI.
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Ryan Feltner pitched five innings, allowing one run on six hits and two walks, and striking out three batters. Colorado designated hitter Elias Diaz and center fielder Brenton Doyle were the only two in the Rockies lineup to record a multi-hit game. Diaz went two-for-five and Doyle two-for-three in the loss.
