The Milwaukee Brewers opened a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. Milwaukee dominated the first game of the series, earning a commanding 10-0 victory. The Brewers rallied from two different lead changes in the middle innings the following night to earn a 8-5 win over the Braves. After losing two of three games in the last series to the Braves, the Brewers rose to the challenge with two road wins.
Milwaukee is 64-49, leading the NL Central by six games over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals. Atlanta is 60-53, seven games behind the Philadelphia Phillies, who are first in the NL East. After that series ends, the Brewers will play the Reds, and the Braves will face the Rockies.
Milwaukee Brewers Impress with 8-5 Victory over Braves
Two batters into the bottom of the first inning, Braves third baseman Austin Riley hit an RBI double into the gap in left-center field, giving Atlanta its first score of the contest. Two batters later, first baseman Matt Olson hit a sacrifice fly. Milwaukee got on the plate in the top of the third when third baseman Joey Ortiz hit an RBI double down the right-field line. Ortiz tied the game at two in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single to left field. On the next bounce, center fielder Blake Perkins hit an RBI single to right field, giving Milwaukee the lead.
Braves retake the lead, but Brewers come back!
Braves manager Brian Snitker was ejected from the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when he argued with the umpire over a strike issued to novel Braves right fielder Jorge Soler. Just one batter later, Riley crushed a two-run home run to left-center field to give Atlanta a 4-3 lead. Brewers catcher Gary Sanchez tied the score at four in the top of the sixth inning when he hit an RBI single to left field. Four batters later, Blake Perkins hit a two-run single to center field.
Joey Ortiz extended Milwaukee’s lead in the top of the eighth inning when he belted another RBI double, this time down the left-field line. Two batters later, second baseman Andruw Monasterio belted an RBI single, giving Milwaukee an 8-4 victory and the final victory.
Brewers top scorers win 8-5
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta pitched for five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six. Center fielder Blake Perkins was three-for-five with three RBIs, while Joey Ortiz was three-for-four with two RBIs in the victory. Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale pitched for four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters. Austin Riley was two-for-four with three RBIs in the loss.
