The Milwaukee Brewers had just finished June by winning two of three games against the Chicago Cubs. They won the first game 4-2, lost the second 5-3, and came away with a 7-1 victory in the final game of the series. Milwaukee now begins a four-game series with the Colorado Rockies, who are arguably the worst team in the National League, along with the Miami Marlins. With the score tied at 7 in the bottom of the ninth, the Rockies came away with the victory 8-7 victory.
Milwaukee picked up its 50th win of the season and is now 50-35. It leads the NL Central by six games. With the loss, Colorado now has the worst record in the National League, 29-55. The Rockies were seriously underestimated in that first game, and it will be compelling to see if Milwaukee can respect Colorado’s play in the next two games.
Milwaukee Brewers suffer awful 8-7 loss to Rockies
In the bottom of the second inning, Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle hit a two-run home run to center field to give Colorado its first lead of the game. In the next inning, Rockies designated hitter Charlie Blackmon hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to right-center field.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Milwaukee Brewers finally got their name on the scoreboard when right fielder Jackson Chourio hit a two-run single to left field to cut Colorado’s lead to one. Four batters later, Brewers center fielder Blake Perkins hit an RBI single to right-center field to tie the game at three.
Brewers manager fired, Rockies take lead
Brewers manager Pat Murphy was ejected from the game for the third time this season in the top of the fifth inning after a bunt attempt by third baseman Joey Ortiz was thrown out of the game when he ran outside the base path. Murphy was not pleased because Ortiz had fallen during the play and could have been injured.
Milwaukee catcher William Contreras hit a solo shot to right field to give the Brewers the lead in the top of the fifth. A half-inning later, Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon tied the score at four when he hit an RBI forceout. Two batters later, Colorado second baseman Brendan Rodgers hit an RBI single over Brewers second baseman Brice Turang to give the Rockies the lead. An inning later, Rockies left fielder Nolan Jones hit an RBI double to left field to give Colorado a 6-4 lead.
The game is solved again
In the top of the eighth inning, Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames made it a one-run game with an RBI single to center field. Three batters later, first baseman Rhys Hoskins tied the score with a sacrifice fly. Milwaukee catcher Eric Haase gave his team the lead with an RBI single to left field. Brenton Doyle hit his second home run of the game, a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning, to tie the game once again.
Rockies win walk-off
Colorado Rockies right fielder Jake Cave scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning. Cave ripped a walk-off single to center field to give the Rockies a much-needed win. It was the first walk-off of the right fielder’s career.
