Milwaukee Brewers leadoff hitter Brice Turang has played a key role in this year’s offense. Like everyone, he’s had his ups and downs and generally speaking, he doesn’t have a powerful touch on the baseball, but once he’s on base, he’s a stealing threat and one of the few players on the roster who puts pressure on opposing pitchers and defenses. Most recently, he stole his 50th base of the season against the New York Mets, and he did it in invigorating fashion.
Brice Turang stole three bases Friday night in a game against the New York Mets.
In what could potentially be a playoff preview, the Brewers and Mets faced off to start the final series of the 2024 regular season on Friday night. In that contest, New York had southpaw Sean Manaea on the mound, where he performed admirably in September. However, Brice Turang won 3-3 against him, stole second and third base in the first inning, and then stole another base in the sixth inning off left-handed reliever Danny Young. Those three steals (all against left-handed pitchers) gave Brice Turang 50 points for the season.
Five players in Milwaukee Brewers history have stolen 50 bases in a season.
By reaching the 50 stolen base milestone, Brice Turang became just the fifth player in franchise history to accomplish the feat. The last player to do so was Jonathan Villar, who stole 62 bases in 2016. Other members included Pat Listach (54 SB in 1992), Scott Podsednick (70 SB in 2004) and Tommy Harper (73 SB in 1969).
