Milwaukee Brewers: Colin Rea becomes second pitcher in franchise history to achieve this feat at Coors Field

This Milwaukee Breweries won 3-0 over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, July 3. The highlight of the game was starting pitcher Colin Rea, who did something that a Brewers player last did in 2005.

Colin Rea, 34, has quietly become the Milwaukee Brewers’ most consistent starting pitcher. According to Curt Hogg, he’s on pace to throw 175 innings this year, and after throwing seven shutout innings against the Rockies at Coors Field, his season ERA dropped to 3.34. In that Colorado outing, Colin Rea scattered six hits in seven frames, allowed no walks, struck out only four, but generated nine ground balls and plenty of tender contact all night.

Only one other Milwaukee Brewers pitcher has thrown seven shutout innings at Coors Field.

According to Mike Vassallo’s research, the only other Brewers pitcher to throw seven shutout innings at Colorado’s plate is Chris Capuano, who did so in August 2005. In that game, Capuano threw 7.0 innings, allowed six hits, gave up no walks and struck out eight.

The Milwaukee Brewers have defeated the Colorado Rockies only three times at Coors Field.

After a great start by Colin Rea, Jakob Junis came in and got a multi-inning save for the Brewers. Junis saved the shutout, which Milwaukee now has five of this season. The 3-0 victory was only the third time a Milwaukee shutout has defeated the Rockies at Coors Field.
