Milwaukee Brewers: Corbin Burnes makes his opinion clear on the 2024 Baltimore Orioles after being eliminated in the MLB playoffs

Former Milwaukee Brewers star Corbin Burnes’ first season with the Baltimore Orioles is over. The O’s packed their bags for vacation after being swept by Bobby Witt Jr. and the Kansas City Royals in the American League Wild Card Round Series.

After the Orioles’ 2-1 home loss in Game 2 on Wednesday, Burnes reflected deeply on Baltimore, which won 91 games during the regular season and finished second in the American League East behind the New York Yankees.

By Matt Weyrich of the Baltimore Sun: :

“Yes, the talent on that squad was unbelievable. Obviously, we had first-rounders everywhere, which is special knowing that these are some of the best players in the game and they were recognized when they were drafted, and a lot of these guys had really good years.

You probably have a Rookie of the Year, a guy who’s going to get some MVP votes, one of the best catchers in the league, and then there’s a lot of guys who are big contributors to this team. So it’s the depth of young guys that they have here that has made this team special and so exciting. Unfortunately, we simply ran out of fuel.”

Burnes pitched well in the series opener, allowing only an earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and walking over eight innings.

However, Baltimore’s offense simply couldn’t capitalize on his great performance as the Orioles ultimately lost 1-0. In Game 2, the Baltimore bats never woke up again, and the Orioles’ only run came on a solo home run by Cedric Mullins.

Burnes’ future is uncertain as he is expected to hit the free agent market this offseason. He spent his first six seasons in the gigantic leagues with the Brewers before Milwaukee traded him to the Orioles last February.

In his first year in Baltimore, Burnes went 15-9 with a 2.92 ERA in 32 games.
