Milwaukee Brewers: Devin Williams talks trade with Chicago Cubs

The Milwaukee Brewers seem eager to add fresh players while giving up some of their ancient ones. The Brew Crew has one goal in mind, and that is to win the World Series. Milwaukee has newborn, talented players on the team who seem ready to make way for future stars. As they look to build their roster, one of the names circulating in trade rumors is Devin Williams.

Williams didn’t play much last season due to injuries. Williams had stress fractures in his spine and was placed on 60 days of probation. Williams threw only 21.2 innings and finished the season with a 1-0 record. His 2024 postseason was a disaster, as he had an 0-1 record with a paltry 21.60 ERA.

It’s protected to say the Milwaukee Brewers are considering other replacements. The Brewers want to advance beyond the Wild Card round in 2025. There have been rumors about Williams for a long time. The Chicago Cubs are believed to be connected to Devin Williams trade rumors. Williams coming to the Cubs will be great, but the Brewers will expect more from the Cubs.

Chicago has newborn, talented players and one of the best farm systems. If they get a great deal from the Cubs, they could just part ways with Williams. Brewers have everything sorted now because they can simply play their cards right. Milwaukee won’t spend much, and paying Williams a huge sum is something they can avoid.

The Milwaukee Brewers have declined Devin Williams’ club option

The Milwaukee Brewers have declined Devin Williams’ $10.5 million club option. The pitcher will receive a $250,000 buyout to remain with the team. One of the main reasons for the team to withdraw his club option was his injuries.

Williams’ stars for the 2024 regular season weren’t good enough. He was very close, but injuries took away his best. The Brew Crew will not want to risk having an injury-prone player on their team next season. That said, Williams may come off the list.

Milwaukee manager Matt Arnold said the team is receptive. Since the Brewers declined Williams’ club option, other teams are expected to show interest. According to multiple reports and rumors, the Brewers will not retain Williams for another season. It’s a complex decision, but effective for the team.
