Milwaukee Breweries Pitcher DL Hall was called up as the 27th player on the dynamic roster for a doubleheader with the Cincinnati Reds. Colin Rea was named to the day game, and DL Hall was named to the night game. Hall ultimately threw seven scoreless innings, and his manager confirmed he had earned a role going forward.
DL Hall threw seven scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds.
Against the Cincinnati Reds, Hall’s stats on the scoreboard look pretty impressive. The left-handed slugger gave up just four hits, walked just one batter, and struck out five. He had just 83 total strikeouts, a top speed of 95.7 miles per hour, and an average fastball velocity of 94.3 miles per hour. He did all of this on a scorching balmy day at Great American Ballpark, requiring him to go through three changes of jerseys to get through the game.
The Milwaukee Brewers could look forward to two successful major league starts with DL Hall.
Before Friday’s game, DL Hall last started a game for the Brewers on Aug. 11. That game also came against the Reds, in which Hall threw 4.2 innings, allowed one run, walked three, gave up three hits and struck out nine. It’s clear that something clicked for Hall and he got into his groove at just the right time.
Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy has DL Hall in his future plans.
After the match Pat Murphy was asked by Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel if DL Hall forces his way into the Brewers’ plans in the future. Murphy responded by saying, “I think so, what about you? His last start wasn’t bad either. He showed me a lot. Seven innings, four hits. One walk. I think he’s in everybody’s plans.”
It will be intriguing to see what role DL Hall plays with the Brewers going forward. He will likely be removed from the dynamic roster on Saturday when the team is once again circumscribed to 26 players, but it’s possible he could be added back to the major league roster on Sept. 1 when rosters expand. If Milwaukee does that and he spends the rest of the year on the major league roster, they could keep his last minor league option open since he would have spent less than 20 days in the minor leagues.
