Milwaukee Brewers: Enoli Paredes reclaims waiver from rival; opens spot on 40-man roster

This Milwaukee Breweries designated reliever Enola Paredes for assignment over the weekend. According to Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, he was claimed off waivers by the Cubs. The move opens up a spot on the Brewers’ 40-man roster, and it will be engaging to see who ends up filling that spot.

Enoli Paredes was released by the Milwaukee Brewers and acquired by the Chicago Cubs.

After joining the Brewers on a Minor League deal in November 2023, Enoli Paredes had his contract optioned by Milwaukee in May. Eight of his first 10 appearances with the Brew Crew were scoreless, but forearm tendinitis forced him to spend more than 60 days on the injured list. Since returning to the major league club in September, he has given up runs in two of his three outings, was designated for assignment after the Brewers clinched the National League Central division and has now been acquired by the Chicago Cubs.

The Milwaukee Brewers have three pitchers who could soon return to the major league team.

It seems unlikely that the Brewers will leave a 40-man roster spot open before the playoffs, but one critical thing to keep in mind is that they have a trio of pitchers who could return to the gigantic leagues soon. Bryse Wilson and Nick Mears could return by the end of the month and have thrown multiple bullpen sessions over the past week. Additionally, Bryan Hudson was optioned to Triple-A to rest up, work on his mechanics, and hopefully get some velocity back. Bringing back any of those three pitchers would have no impact on the 40-man roster, but a corresponding move on the lively roster would have to happen.

Who could the Milwaukee Brewers select to replace him with 40 players on the roster?

With the playoffs a week away, the Brewers could wait until later this week/closer to the end of the season to announce their 40-man roster. Adding a pitcher who fills a role similar to what Caleb Boushley did behind schedule last season is likely. That would allow Milwaukee to keep their best arms fresh heading into the playoffs. At this point in the season, it would be unlikely to add a top prospect like Jacob Misiorowski or Craig Yoho to the 40-man roster.
