The Milwaukee Breweries have a very stimulating team this season. Even though they weren’t expected to compete in 2024 due to the Corbin Burnes trade and Brandon Woodruff’s one-year sideline, the Brewers have a 36-23 record and are seven games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the fight for first place in the National League Central Division.
To get to this point, Milwaukee had to rely on the contributions of many juvenile players, some of whom were rookies. For example, third baseman Joey Ortiz was just named National League Rookie of the Month and is hitting .293/.391/.503 with five home runs and 21 RBI. Rookie starting pitcher Robert Gasser enjoyed the kind of success no Brewers starting pitcher has achieved since Woodruff’s freshman season.
Indeed, the lineup currently includes a number of fan favorites (two of the most popular are Willy Adames and William Contreras). However, one former fan favorite is back on the market, and Brewers fans are calling on the team to bring him back.
Milwaukee Brewers fans want Keston Hiura back after his release from the Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers made a number of changes to their lineup on Monday afternoon. Among them was the outright dismissal of former Brewers first-inning reliever Keston Hiura.

After signing with the Tigers in the offseason, Hiura did not make the Opening Day roster from spring training. He played for Triple-A Toledo, but his slash was just .232/.312.401 with six home runs and 24 RBI. He scored 56 goals in 49 matches.
Once a second baseman, he played exclusively first base and as a designated hitter in the Tigers’ organization.

After hearing the news that Hiura had been released by the Tigers, Brewers fans called on the organization to bring him home:

It is worth noting that many Tigers fans were also upset with this move as they wanted Hiura promoted. It’s also worth noting that Hiura still uses his Brewers bags:

Should the Milwaukee Brewers bring in Keston Hiura?
On the one hand, Hiura hit .311/.397/.563 with 23 home runs and 79 RBIs for the Brewers’ minor league team last year. On the other hand, there is nowhere to play. Triple-A Nashville boasts Tyler Black at first base, and the prospect has already emerged in the Majors this season and is likely part of the franchise’s future.
Hiura isn’t good enough defensively at second base or in the outfield to warrant playing at that position, and the Brewers have plenty of prospects at those positions as well.
While it would be great if he found success in a Brewers uniform, that most likely won’t happen.
