The Milwaukee Brewers handed the ball to Freddy Peralta in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series against the New York Mets. He was tagged with three earned runs in the second inning, but then retired nine straight batters before being removed before the start of the fifth inning. Here, we take a look at Pat Murphy’s explanation for Peralta’s early departure, as well as some of the fan reactions.
Freddy Peralta was removed after four innings and 68 pitches.
After striking out two batters in the first inning, Freddy Peralta was in trouble in the second inning. This inning began with all first batters safely on base and eventually scoring. Mark Vientos singled to start, Pete Alono walked seven pitches, and then Jesse Winker tripled with a two-run home run. Winker then scored on a sacrifice fly later, but from there Peralta retired nine more batters before being removed after four innings.
Pat Murphy reneges on his decision to oust Freddy Peralta.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Curt Hogg gave a full explanation as to why Pat Murphy removed Freddy Peralta. His answer included things like not wanting to face the Mets lineup for a third time, throwing a thrilling 70 pitches, wanting to give the game a lead, feeling confident in Joel Payamps, and not wanting to delay getting to the bullpen so that they could pitch better games .

Milwaukee Brewers fans react to Freddy Peralta’s early recall decision and Pat Murphy’s explanation.
That’s good for me, third time on the order. The bullpen needs to execute

I disagree. He is your ace. He returned to the ditch. Then you yanked him.

Stop trying to change things that have worked all year. Let the boy you gave the ball to in the first match go. Don’t drag him to where he’s 789 on pitches below 70 and in the lead. Let him get these three guys and then go get the bullpen. I do a hell of a lot.
