Last week, the Milwaukee Brewers signed right-handed pitcher Elvin Rodriguez to an MLB contract. To make room for him on the 40-man roster JB Bukauskas was designated for assignment. Bukauskas has since agreed to a waiver and accepted an assignment in Triple-A.
J.B. Bukauskas has agreed to a waiver and will be a non-roster invitee to Milwaukee Brewers huge league camp
Former 15th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros JB Bukauskas agreed to the layoffs. He then had the choice of whether to accept an assignment to Triple-A or decline and become a free agent. Bukauskas has elected to remain in the Brewers organization and will be a non-roster invitee to huge league camp.
Injuries have plagued JB Bukauskas over the last few seasons
Last year, a LAT injury constrained Bukauskas to just 12 innings between the major and minor leagues. In 2023, when Milwaukee initially claimed him off waivers, he was sidelined overdue in the season by a finger tendon issue and, before that, cervical issues. The silver lining to all these injuries is that he was given a fourth lower league option before the start of the 2024 season and managed to keep that option until 2025.
Don’t rule out JB Bukauskas starting for the Brewers in 2025
If his health isn’t a factor next year, there’s a real chance the Milwaukee Brewers could employ JB Bukauskas in 2025. He has been effective in the huge leagues, but over the past two seasons it has been a diminutive sample size of 13 innings where he has only allowed two earned runs. His slider has a overdue break and is absolutely devastating for hitters, so it’s quite surprising that it wasn’t picked up.
