Milwaukee Brewers: INF Joey Ortiz placed on 10-day IL list

The Milwaukee Brewers seem to be holding their breath as players continue to hit the injured list. Just hours after announcing they were trading minor league infielder Gregory Berrios for right-handed starting pitcher Aaron Civale, the team took to Twitter (X) to provide some injury and roster updates.

Just as he was warming up, his flame went out. The Brewers announced Wednesday before their game against the Colorado Rockies that infielder Joey Ortiz had been placed on the injured list with neck inflammation, retroactive to July 2.

Ortiz did not play in Milwaukee’s win Tuesday, but a neck problem has seen the rookie in and out of action over the past week. Before the injury, Ortiz was slashing .269/.373/.444 with an OPS of .817, seven homeruns, 28 RBI and five stolen bases in 74 games.

RHP Enoli Paredes was also placed on the 15-day injured list with right forearm tendinitis. In a similar move, INF Vinny Capra and RHP Janson Junk were recalled from Triple-A Nashville. Despite Ortiz being placed on the injured list, the Brewers have a third baseman in Monastery of St. Andrewwho in 26 games this season has hit .196/.297/.286 average with an OPS of .583, one homerun and six RBI.
