The Milwaukee Breweries started Friday by winning the first game of an extra-inning doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds. There was plenty of action on this almost 30-degree day, including home runs, home run robberies, runners taking outs on base, and the threat of injury to the game’s youngest star.
Willy Adames and William Contreras hit home runs against the Cincinnati Reds.
At the beginning of this game, baseball was carried to Great American Ballpark. Willy Adames tied the game in the second inning with his 25th home run of the season. This long ball marked his third season in which he hit at least 25 home runs. William Contreras smashed his 19th home run of the season in the fourth inning and is now one ball shy of tying his career best set in 2022.
Attacks on the hosts and raids on the bases of both teams.
The highlight of the game was a save by Liverpool outfielder TJ Friedel. He managed to salvage the lead in the third inning and threw just one pitch after hitting the wall tough while trying to catch Jackson Chourio’s double.

It’s also worth mentioning the number of outs made on bases in this game. In this game, Jackson Chourio, Blake Perkins and Elly De La Cruz were caught stealing. Chourio and De La Cruz were ejected from second base, while Perkins was ejected from the field. Additionally, catcher William Contreras again singled Reds Rece Hinds from first base to an out.
Milwaukee Brewers Rookie of the Year candidate Jackson Chourio suffered an ankle injury.
In the fifth inning, Jackson Chourio hit a ground ball to Elly De La Cruz. It was a tough game defensively, and the call at first base was a resounding, bang-bang (out), but Chourio ended up spraining his ankle in the outfield. The Brewers staff helped him get to the dugout, and you can see him gaining confidence in carrying the weight as he slowly made his way to the dugout. Chourio ultimately stayed in the game.
