The Milwaukee Brewers have a good outfielder in Jackson Chourio. He’s not just one of the best players on his team; Chourio is also one of the most impressive hitters in the major leagues heading into the 2024 MLB regular season.
Jackson Chourio is the future
Full of potential, Chourio has consistently caught the eye with his play in just his first season in Major League Baseball, hitting just .176 in April and .215 in May. But since then, he has seemed to have a handle on how to make a huge impact with his bat for Milwaukee, which remains the best team to beat in the National League Central Division.
Thanks to his fantastic play, Chourio has a good chance of winning the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2024. Jim Bowden of The Athletic Chourio finished third in the race for NL Rookie of the Year honors.
Jackson Chourio started off ponderous, batting .206 in March/April and .215 in May. But since then he has been the machine many expected, batting .315 in June, .317 in July and .321 in August. Overall he has 15 home runs, 18 stolen bases and a 110 OPS+. If Chourio continues to play like this the rest of the season, he could catch both Skenes and Merrill by the end of the season.
In 2024, Chourio slashed .275/.319/.445 with 15 home runs, 19 doubles and multiple triples in 115 games and 400 at-bats.
Chourio still has a chance to solidify his position in the race for 2024 NL Rookie of the Year
Chourio, who turned 20 in March, still has a lot to offer.
As Bowden mentioned, Chourio could see his roster position improve if he can maintain — if not improve — his form as the season heads into its final months and weeks. Ahead of Chourio in Bowden’s rankings are San Diego Padres outside linebacker Jackson Merrill (No. 2) and Pittsburgh Pirates fireballer Paul Skenes (No. 1).
