Milwaukee Brewers: Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Freddie Freeman Reveals Pat Murphy’s Incredible Gesture

This Milwaukee Breweries are chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in the National League. They will continue their pursuit when they begin a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday. But as the regular season comes to a close, the baseball world has taken some time to focus on the family of former Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, who now plays for the Dodgers.

Two weeks ago, Freeman’s three-year-old son, Max, suffered a medical emergency that left him paralyzed throughout his body. Max was diagnosed with a infrequent disease called Gullain-Barré syndrome, a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves.

Max Freeman had to be put on a ventilator to save his life. Fortunately, he was recently able to breathe on his own, was taken off the ventilator and began physical therapy. Doctors say he will make a full recovery.

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman received a message from Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy is pictured during the first inning of their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On Monday, Freeman gave an emotional interview about everything his family has been through over the past two weeks, expressing his gratitude that his son will be OK and that he has received an outpouring of support from people around the baseball world.

But he wanted to single out one man in particular: Brewers manager Pat Murphy.

“Everybody associated with the Dodgers has been amazing. And then I want to thank Pat Murphy and his staff. They sent us and my family a whole video praying for us and wishing us all the best.”

About his son’s experiences, Freeman said:

“Nobody deserves this, nobody who goes through this. It’s not just my family. We went there every night and every room is full [pediatric ICU]. And it’s heartbreaking. So many families go through this. We’re one of the lucky ones who got Guillain-Barré treated so well that he can make a full recovery. There are kids fighting for their lives right now. It just puts it all in perspective.

“I know Dodgers fans don’t like it, but I’d gladly strike out a plate in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 7 of the World Series 300 million times in a row than watch that again. But he’s on his way. He’s on his way. It’s going to be a long road.”
