This Milwaukee Breweries have dominated all season. Under first-year manager Pat Murphy, they have spent 139 days in first place (as of Aug. 19) and are in contention for the best record in all of baseball. That said, one MLB Insider says this year’s team has the ingredients to make a World Series run.
MLB expert Robert Murray believes the 2024 Milwaukee Brewers have what it takes to play in the World Series.
On the MLB Insiders podcast, Robert Murray discussed how the 2024 Milwaukee Brewers have all the ingredients for a World Series run. Murray acknowledged that the starting pitching has taken a step back and has struggled with multiple injuries, but they’ve managed to keep things in check. He also talked about the loss of Christian Yelich, but cited their bullpen as a huge strength and credited Pat Murphy for putting players in positions to succeed and for maximizing his lineup.
Which players are key components of the Milwaukee Brewers roster for the 2024 season?
The Brewers starting rotation is currently led by Colin Rea (3.52 ERA) and rookie Tobias Myers (2.81 ERA). Freddy Peralta (4.00 ERA) has had an up-and-down season, Frankie Montas has a 3.86 ERA in his first three starts with the team and Aaron Civale has a 4.10 ERA in seven starts since the trade.
In the bullpen, Devin Williams is robust after missing more than half the season with a back stress fracture, and interim closer Trevor Megill is expected to be activated soon. Southpaws Bryan Hudson (1.65 ERA) and Jared Koenig (2.09 ERA) have been dominant all season. Joel Payamps (3.55 ERA) and Bryse Wilson (4.20 ERA) and Elvis Peguero (3.00 ERA) are good righties.
Offensively, Willy Adames has been the team’s leading producer (85 RBI), but William Contreras (.819 OPS) is arguably their best player now that Christian Yelich is out. Rhys Hoskins has stepped up in Yelich’s absence and has been one of the league’s best players in high-leverage situations. Brice Turang is a steal-anywhere threat (37 stolen bases), Jackson Chourio has been one of the league’s best players since early June, and Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick and Joey Ortiz are everyday contributors.
Robert Murray believes the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen will only get stronger as the season progresses.
Robert Murray also mentioned his belief that top Brewers pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski will make it to the massive leagues sooner rather than later. Misiorowski has been appearing in the bullpen the past few weeks at Triple-A as he prepares to make his MLB debut. Murray indicated that adding Misiorowski to the mix will only improve the Brewers bullpen.
There is a chance that several teams will finish with the best record in baseball during this time. It is nice to see Milwaukee getting some World Series buzz instead of powerhouse organizations like the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.
