This Milwaukee Breweries reportedly acquired starting pitcher Frankie Montas from the division rival Cincinnati Reds. After the trade, Montas spoke with members of the Reds media and responded to a message.
Frankie Montas was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for infielder Joey Wiemer and pitcher Jakob Junis.
Frankie Montas, 31, who has a 5.01 ERA in 2024 and a 4.05 career ERA, was acquired by the Brewers for two MLB-caliber players in Joey Wiemer and Jakob Junis. Both Montas and Junis have mutual options for the 2025 season. Montas’ 2025 option is worth $20 million with a $2 million buyout, while Junis’ is worth $8 million with a $3 million buyout.
Three takeaways from Frankie Montas’ press conference following the transfer announcement.
After the news of the trade broke, Montas had some engaging comments during a press conference with Reds media. He talked about how, despite the early trade, leaving this club and this type of team was tough. He also didn’t rule out returning to Cincinnati next year. The final takeaway was that he was excited to join a team in the top spot that still believes in him.

Franke Montas will be the 17th different starting pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers this season.
When Frankie Montas joins the Brewers and starts playing for them, he will be the 17th different starting pitcher used this season, tying the franchise record set recently by the Seattle Pilots. The MLB trade deadline is July 30, so it’s possible Milwaukee will add another pitcher, but for now, it looks like he’ll be the pitcher who ties the franchise record.
