Milwaukee Brewers star Christian Yelich will be out of baseball until at least the end of the 2024 MLB season. He announced on Thursday that he will undergo back surgery that has sidelined him since July.
“It got to the point where there was no improvement,” Yelich said in a video he posted on his official X account (formerly Twitter). “I tried everything I could and I ran out of options. It was time to make a decision, and this was the best option we had. These things happen, you get hurt, you get healed, and then you go back out again.”
This is disappointing news for Brewers fans, as many were hoping that they would still be able to see the former National League MVP play this season and lend a hand Milwaukee achieve its ultimate goal of winning the World Series.

Understandably, Yelich and Brewers fans are devastated by the news.
From @TheShiftologist: “I cry about this, but know this: Your impact on Milwaukee goes way beyond this season. You were the catalyst that led to the pedigree we see from this team every year, officially solidifying Milwaukee as a perennial contender!
Via @Baseball4Ever9: “Prayers for a speedy recovery 🙏 much love from a Pirates fan!! Great baseball player and fun to watch. Too bad you won’t make it to the end of the season 😭😭 get well soon Christian!!!”
“You can see the pain in this man’s eyes, praying for his recovery 🙏🏻,” @JRam4MVP commented.
“This sucks so much 😢” @LostTribeSports said
“This Brewer fan is heartbroken for you. Injuries suck! Be proud of the fantastic season you had! Praying for a speedy recovery! 🙏❤️⚾️” – @1BRWRFN
Once the season is over, Yelich will finish the 2024 season with a .315/.406/.504 batting average, 11 home runs, 42 RBI and an OPS+ of 152.
