Wednesday was a tough day for Colin Rea and the Milwaukee Brewers. Rea was absolutely crushed by the San Francisco Giants in a 13-2 road loss to the Giants. The 34-year-old pitcher was shellacked for 10 runs on 11 hits. Three of those hits were home runs, and he also allowed a walk.
Despite the coarse start, Rea received positive feedback from Brewers manager Pat Murphy.
By Eric He of the Associated Press:
“It seemed like every time they hit the ball, there was no fielder there,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “It was tough. But Colin hung in there, gave us four innings, so we didn’t have to go deep in the pen. He didn’t have his great stuff, but I’m sure. … He’s probably a little worn out, like a lot of guys are. But he doesn’t have time for that. He’ll get back into shape.”
Even the Brewers offense didn’t show much vitality, as Milwaukee was just 2-for-34 from base and 2-for-11 with at least one runner on base.
After the game against the Giants, Rea saw his ERA rise to 4.21. For comparison, he entered the second contest of the Giants series with an ERA of 3.72. He is now 12-5 with a WHIP of 1.22.
Milwaukee Brewers looking to end series with win
The Brewers, who have lost five of their last seven games, will look to get back on track Thursday in the series finale against the Giants. Milwaukee will have Frankie Montas on the mound, while the Giants will hand the ball to Hayden Birdsong.
