Milwaukee Brewers: Pat Murphy Made No Secret of Series Finale Loss to Cincinnati Reds — ‘Hard to Watch’

The Milwaukee Brewers fell brief of the Cincinnati Reds, falling 4-3 in extra innings in the series finale on Sunday. The Brewers led 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning, but the Reds tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the same frame. Milwaukee went scoreless the rest of the game, going just 0-for-21 at the plate.

Brewers coach Pat Murphy lamented his team’s anemic offensive play for so long in the contest.

“You can’t just shut it down,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “There were some really tough contacts there. It was tough to watch those 21 at-bats. It’s disappointing in a lot of ways. We just have to focus on what we could have done better today.”

The Brewers were also just 2-of-10 when at least one player was in position to score.

The typically productive Jackson Chourio had one of those days when he went 0-for-5, while Blake Perkins and William Contreras were a combined 0-for-9 with two strikeouts.

Milwaukee will look to regroup and hope that things will improve on offense when the Brewers open the series this Monday night at home against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. The last time these teams met in the series, the Brewers lost a three-game series at Busch Stadium, 15-9, while the Cardinals won both.

On the mound for the Brewers in their first game against the Cards will be Freddy Peralta, who is 9-7 this season with a 3.70 ERA.
