Milwaukee Breweries slugger Rhys Hoskins was the hero Monday night in a win over the Texas Rangers. His decisive sixth-inning grand slam was the difference, and the Brew Crew held on for the win by a score of 6-3. After the game, Hoskins talked about what it took to get through the team, why he was ambushed on the first pitch and how the at-bat supervisor helped set up the moment.

Three Milwaukee Brewers batters had incredible at-bats before Rhys Hoskins’ grand slam.
Before Hoskins’ magical moment, all three hitters ahead of him had incredible at-bats. William Contreras started the inning with a double in his sixth at-bat. This resulted in starter Michael Lorenzen being removed from the game and replaced by left-handed reliever Jacob Latz. Christian Yelich then saw nine pitches that resulted in a walk, and Willy Adames also drew a loose ball in the sixth pitch after initially trailing with the score 0-2.
Rhys Hoskins commented after the match: “It’s always great to play for the boys.”
In a post-game video by Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Rhys Hoskins talked about the grand slam and mentioned that, “It’s always great to play for the guys.” He also talked about how Yelich and Adames had long strikes ahead of them and he felt the situation called for a high pitch, probably a strike, so he was able to take the first pitch he saw.
“You’ve got to want that fifth batter if you’re 0 for 4.”
