Rhys Hoskins and the Milwaukee Brewers lost Game 1 of the National League Wild-Card Round series against the New York Mets on Tuesday, defeating lost 8:4. Things started well for Milwaukee as the Brewers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. However, the Mets proved to be complex to beat as they took a 3-2 lead at the end of the second frame.
The decisive round of the competition took place in the fifth framewith the Brewers’ bullpen exploding. Joel Payamps and Ashby gave up a combined five earned runs for the Mets, who never looked back.
Even though the Brewers have their backs against the wall, Milwaukee first baseman Rhys Hoskins believes his team will be fine.
“Obviously you want to win the first game, put some pressure on the other team,” Hoskins told reporters after the game, according to Bally Sports Wisconson (h/t Clutch points).
“But this season we have won two games in a row many times. And yes, we’ve been knocked down enough this year that we’ve also gotten back up, so I think we’re 100 percent confident that we can do it. We just have to believe in it,” Hoskins added.
Rhys Hoskins and the Milwaukee Brewers will need to team up in Game 2
Hoskins and the Brewers’ resilience will be tested next Wednesday as they look to extend the series and keep their World Series hopes alive.
Hoskins went just 0-for-3 on shots in the first game. In Game 2, the Brewers will face Mets starter Sean Manaea, who has allowed Hoskins to go 2-for-6 with two home runs in his career starts.
