This coming weekend, the Milwaukee Brewers will host the New York Mets in the final round of the 2024 regular season. Interestingly, this could be a playoff preview as both teams could potentially face off in the Wild Card Series, but the odds are currently high that the Brew The Crew will face the Arizona Diamondbacks. Regardless, on Friday night, outfielder Sal Frelick suffered an injury that could jeopardize his postseason opportunities.
Sal Frelick was injured in a game against the New York Mets and had to be removed from the game.
Early in the game, Sal Frelick ran at full speed toward the right field wall to track the fly ball. He ended up hitting the wall and missing the padded part. It appeared his left hip/back area had hit the chain link fence instead. He remained on the field for a long time and was able to carefully walk off the field, but then needed support from his teammates to get to the dugout and the clubhouse.
Sal Frelick will undergo further tests on his hip.
After being removed from the game, Sal Frelick underwent X-rays. Brewers staff indicated that the X-rays were inconclusive. The plan is to undergo an MRI on Saturday, September 28. His MRI is scheduled for 10 a.m.
Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy and pitcher Frankie Montas comment on Sal Frelick’s prospects.
After the game, Pat Murphy had this to say about Sal Frelick’s injury: “First of all, I feel terrible for this youthful man. It hurts our team because he’s a Gold Glove outfielder and he just keeps winning. He’s a huge part of it and it will be a massive blow to him if he can’t play and that’s the focus right now.

On the contrary, starting pitcher Frankie Montas said he checked on Sal Frelick’s condition after finishing his night on the mound. Montas said Frelick seemed encouraged and hopeful about his future.
Stay tuned to Wisconsin Sports Heroics as we will provide updates on Sal Frelick as more information becomes available. If he can’t leave, Garrett Mitchell and Blake Perkins will be in line for more consistent playing time going forward, regardless of their next pitching matchup.
