Milwaukee Brewers: Willy Adames discusses staying fresh in pursuit of starting all 162 games

Milwaukee Breweries Future free-agent shortstop Willy Adames has repeatedly said his goal is to play all 162 regular-season games. A strained quadriceps in 2021, a sprained ankle in 2022 and a concussion in 2023 ultimately prevented him from achieving that goal. This year, he has played in 112 games in the 2024 season and recently discussed how he’s staying fresh on his quest to play all 162 games.

Willy Adames has named two things as key to staying fresh in his quest to start all 162 games.

After a great performance against the Atlanta Braves that included two separate two-run home runs, Willy Adames was asked by Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about his strategy for staying fresh this season. Adames credited it to challenging work in the offseason, as well as work/treatment from the medical staff when things got out of hand.

Willy Adames currently holds the second-longest consecutive games played streak as a shortstop in Milwaukee Brewers history.

The Brewers franchise record for consecutive starts by a shortstop is 207 games, set by Robin Yount from Sept. 11, 1975 to May 12, 1977. Willy Adames recently passed Pat Listash’s 111-game streak to move into second place. Adames’ current 116-game streak began Sept. 28, 2023, and is still ongoing.

Willy Adames may not have a chance to break Robin Yount’s record.

With 50 games remaining in the 2024 regular season and Willy Adames set to hit free agency in the offseason, there’s a good chance he won’t be in a Milwaukee Brewers uniform in 2025. If he plays in all 162 games this year and signs elsewhere, he won’t have a chance to break Robin Yount’s record of 207 consecutive starts as a shortstop.
