Milwaukee Brewers: Willy Adames reaches career milestone with RBI Day 3 against the Chicago White Sox

The Milwaukee Breweries defeated the Chicago White Sox 4-3 in 10 innings on Saturday afternoon, improving their record to 35-23 on the season. They are currently six and a half games ahead of the Chicago Cubs and in first place in the National League Central Division. St. Louis Cardinals are seven games back; The Pittsburgh Pirates are eight games back; and the Cincinnati Reds are 10 games back.

It was Milwaukee’s fourth straight victory and Chicago’s tenth in a row. Once again, the Brewers’ bats came alive against the opposing bullpen after being relatively kept at bay by the opposing starter. They only managed to muster one inning from White Sox starter Garrett Crochet, who went five innings and struck out eight.

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Adames hit two of two RBIs on a single that scored Brice Turang and William Contreras.

After reliever Hoby Milner managed to keep the White Sox off the board in the 10th inning, Adames stepped up with two runners on. After they started on a wild pitch, Adames hit a supple single into the hole at tiny stop. Contreras scored from third base to give Milwaukee a 4-3 victory.

Adames had three RBIs on the night, bringing his season total to 42.

The first run scored on Adames’ single in the seventh inning was his 400th career RBI. As of now, representing three full seasons in Milwaukee, Adames has driven in 278 runs.

However, this will likely be the last season of the fan-favorite shortstop with the Brewers. He is currently hitting .259/.336/.452 with nine home runs and 42 RBI. He will become a free agent at the end of the season and will certainly have many lucrative offers from larger markets.

In a recent interview, Brewers owner Mark Attanasio revealed that they were in talks to extend Adames’ contract this offseason but were unable to reach an agreement.

He also revealed that the organization received multiple trade offers for the star shortstop, but turned them down because the returns didn’t match the value Adames brings to the team, not just as a player, but as a person.
