The Milwaukee Bucks haven’t had the most busy offseason compared to other teams in their conference, but no one has questioned their potential as one of the teams with a chance to make a deep playoff run in 2024-25.
One factor that bookmakers are considering this way is the team’s core trio of offensive powerhouses. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton could outperform many NBA teams if all three are fully vigorous. It’s not unreasonable for fans to expect them to drop points on opponents on a daily basis.
Another key factor in their success is Brook LopezHe has been a great point guard for the Bucks since he developed his three-point shooting ability, and the team offering him an extension shows how essential he is to Doc Rivers’ game plan for the Bucks to compete for a title in 2025.
There’s no denying the gigantic man’s time with the Bucks is coming to an end, though. He’s already 36, and it’s only a matter of time before his size and shooting make up for his sluggishness.
The Bucks may have found their replacement in the draft in Tyler Smith, with one analyst cautiously expressing hope he will become Lopez’s successor on the roster.

Jack Trehearne from Brew Hoop wrote about Smith’s potential to replace Lopez, highlighting his throwing ability that many starting players don’t have:
I’m cautiously hopeful about Smith’s future with this team. The truth is, you just won’t find guys his size who throw like that. I’m no draft expert, but I thought taking him early in the second round was a completely defensive pick, especially for this team.
Bucks management is no doubt trying to plan for the next five to ten years after Brook Lopez retires and/or Bobby Portis leaves. For all his talent, Giannis is a bit of a tough act to follow, as it would be best to surround him with shooting bigs who simply don’t grow on trees. So bringing Smith into the fold now, even if he doesn’t play this season, probably wasn’t something they could have overlooked. The 6’11” winger put on a solid performance in his only year in G League is heating upaveraging 13.4 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.2 APG, and 3.5 BPG. More importantly, he shot a solid 40% from the three-point line.
The question remains whether his G League performance will translate to the NBA, but everything is set up for him to succeed. All he has to do is hit his shot and prepare to take over Lopez’s role when Father Time finally catches up with the 2021 NBA champion.
