The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA, having won 11 of their last 14 games. The streak, which came as a surprise to many, helped Milwaukee improve its season record to 13-11 after a disastrous 2-8 start. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard have worked difficult to build chemistry on the court, and their persistence in striving for excellence has paid off.
Fortunately for Bucks fans, the team’s recent run of success has put to rest the trade rumors that swirled around the team in the early weeks of the season. During the snail-paced start, and especially during the six-game losing streak, many wondered aloud whether Milwaukee should trade Giannis and/or Dame and start over.
While very few doubt that the Bucks are currently an Eastern Conference contender, these rumors and trade suggestions have gone from Milwaukee looking for a way to upgrade its roster to the team finding a way to play even better.
One NBA analyst suggests that the Milwaukee Bucks replaced Damian Lillard with LeBron James
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James recently left the team for what head coach JJ Reddick calls an excused absence. When asked why LeBron, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, is away from the team, Reddick only replied that it was for personal reasons. Additionally, he said he doesn’t know when the four-time NBA MVP will rejoin the Lakers.
While there is no indication that LeBron is unhappy with the Lakers, that doesn’t stop the trade rumor mill from coming forward with proposals. One of them by Eddie Bitar z The Vanishing World sees the Bucks acquire King James in exchange for Damian Lillard:
“On paper, this trade pairs LeBron with Giannis Antetokounmpo to form an absolutely terrifying duo that will rock the basketball world. The thought of LeBron as a maestro and Giannis as an unstoppable force is enough to make any team in the East tremble.
“For the Lakers, acquiring Damian Lillard is a gift. Dame continues to be in great form, averaging 25.8 points and 7.6 assists per game, and his elite scoring and leadership will bring renewed energy to Los Angeles. Pairing him with Anthony Davis gives the Lakers a lethal combination that could keep them in contention. Lillard doesn’t touch on the Lakers’ depth, but when Dame is scoring 30 goals a day, they’ll understand.
The problem, of course, is that this trade idea makes absolutely no sense for the Bucks.
Milwaukee Bucks will not trade Damian Lillard for LeBron James
There is no doubt that LeBron, who is almost 40 years senior, is still one of the most animated players in the NBA. For the season, he is averaging 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 9.1 assists, shooting 50/36/76 from the field.
That being said, Milwaukee’s early season struggles demonstrate one of the major flaws in the justification for the above trade proposal. Writing “when Dame throws 30 plays a day, they will understand it” is simply unrealistic. This is the NBA, not a video game. You can’t just pluck players from one team, transfer them to another and expect immediate changes.
This happens sometimes, but the Bucks’ 2024-25 season is a perfect example of how significant chemistry is. While the idea of Giannis and LeBron being on the same team is intriguing, such a trade would ruin what Milwaukee has been (and continues to be) working on.
