Maybe it’s just the way the Milwaukee Bucks are 7-9 in the season, but their prospects for success look much better than a few weeks ago. After winning their first game of the season, the Bucks began a six-game losing streak, and fans began to wonder if the organization was blowing up its roster and starting over.
As has been the case for years, trade rumors surrounding two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo have been widely reported in various national media outlets. For his part, Giannis never addressed the rumors, instead letting his play and demeanor do the talking.
The Bucks have won five of six games over the past two weeks and are suddenly one of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference. Now the narrative has changed from sellers in Milwaukee to buyers.
The Milwaukee Bucks have been assigned as the team to monitor the trade of Robert Williams III
While Milwaukee has certainly shown improvement over the past two weeks, there are still major concerns regarding the team’s makeup, especially the bench. Bobby Portis provides immediate attack and scores every time he checks in, but is a defensive threat and is often blamed for reducing team momentum.
However, other than Portis, the Bucks don’t have a huge man on the bench who can be relied upon to consistently write about Giannis or Brook Lopez.
Perhaps because of this, one Bucks reporter thinks Milwaukee is a team to monitor for potential Robert Williams III trade:

Bucks fans know Williams from his time with the Boston Celtics. He often drove Milwaukee crazy with his defense, especially in tight postseason battles.
But what may also be known about Williams is that he was one of the players included on the Celtics roster when they acquired Jrue Holiday in a trade with the Portland Trailblazers.
Of course, the Bucks had already traded Holiday to Portland for Damian Lillard. But the Trailblazers had no intention of keeping him. He quickly traded Holiday for Williams, former Milwaukee point guard Malcolm Brogdon and two first-round NBA draft picks.
How Robert Williams III would support the Milwaukee Bucks
Williams has played in just six games this season due to a hamstring tear he suffered in early October. In these games, he is averaging 10.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per 20 minutes. His per game averages are also 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks.
What’s most impressive about these numbers is that Williams isn’t starting for the Trailblazers. As has been the case for much of his career, he comes off the bench.
As mentioned earlier, Williams is known for his defense, so his addition to the Bucks lineup would immediately improve that aspect of his bench game.
However, he is not a three-point shooter. He wouldn’t support create open lanes for Giannis or Lillard because opposing teams don’t have to respect him as a scorer.
There will certainly be other teams interested in trading for Williams, and the Bucks don’t have the draft prospects or players that would make them huge buyers on the market.
That being said, if Portland is interested in reuniting with Pat Connaughton or taking a flyer on Marjon Beauchamp, a deal could be done.
