“Life After Lopez: Bucks Fight for Central Solution”
For seven years Brook Lopez He wore the number 11 jersey for the Milwaukee Bucks. He did a lot of great things in Milwaukee. He won a championship in 2021, making the All-Defensive Team twice, and just a week ago, his name went further into the history books by becoming No. 1. The 20 greatest shot blockers of all time in the NBA. It has 1,969 blocks. Lopez just passed fellow All-Defensive Team player Theo Ratliffe. Next in the rankings is former All-Star forward Larry Nance, who has 2,027 blocks.
Lopez is having another solid season for the Bucks, averaging 12.4 PPG, 4.9 rebounds per game and nearly 2 blocks per game. When Giannis Antetokounmpo He didn’t play for several games. Lopez stepped up and scored 20 or more points in three straight games. At this level of play, it is almost certain that he will have teams ready to sign him. He will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2024-25 season, and Milwaukee could also look at a deal to rejuvenate itself.
Milwaukee has Bobby Portis, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Taurean Prince who could mix in at the forward and center forward positions, but they don’t have a youthful striker to rely on for the next few years. The Bucks are the seventh-oldest team in the NBA, with an average age of 27.87. Giannis has already missed several games in an effort to stay fit. Lopez is 36 years elderly, but has been relatively fit over the last two years and has missed just seven games in that span. Prince is not a great scorer, but he can be relied on in defense and action.
Can Middleton stay fit and lead the Bucks back to the top?
You could argue that if the Bucks want to finish in the top three, they will need sharpshooter Khris Middleton to stay fit. With Lopez’s contract expiring, Middleton has a player option for next year. Middleton has played in 11 games this year, averaging 13.9 PPG in 23.6 minutes. His lowest result since the 2014/2015 season. Despite lower scoring, he shot a career-best 46.3% from three-point range and also added some playmaking skills to his game, averaging 5.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Keeping him fit is key for the Bucks. He’ll likely be taken out of some back-to-back sets, and he’ll certainly be taken out delayed in tight games, going to a defensive sub as it’s clear he’s lost a step, but his shooting and basketball IQ are two large things the Bucks need to get back on track peak.
Will the Bucks make a move? Trade rumors are swirling around the team
With any playoff team, especially after the success the Bucks have had over the last few years, there will always be trade rumors. According to SI, a proposed team deal in which Milwaukee would receive Nikola Vucevic and Torrey Craig. The Golden State Warriors will receive Brook Lopez and the talented Horton Tucker. The Chicago Bulls will receive Andrew Wiggins and multiple picks. Milwaukee will benefit from this move, as the team will receive a slightly younger center who plays at a high level. Whether the Bucks make a move remains to be seen.
The Bucks are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings, 11.5 games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. Considering how bad they started, this is a good situation for the Bucks.
