Milwaukee Bucks: Damian Lillard delivers blunt message to Giannis Antetokounmpo during 2024 playoff loss

There is no denying that the 2023-2024 NBA season for the Milwaukee Bucks has fallen far low of people’s expectations. The Bucks had the terrifying duo of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who will both be in the Basketball Hall of Fame. However, all the Bucks accumulated in the first season of the Lillard-Antetokounmpo tandem was a 49-win campaign and a first-round exit in the 2024 NBA Playoffs at the hands of the Indiana Pacers.

The Bucks have struggled with injuries during this series. In the fourth match, both superstars were sidelined due to injuries. Lillard recently revealed one thing to Antetokounmpo that sums up the improvement both need to make for their partnership to work.

“And I think we had a lot of conversations about that, but I think as it got later in the season, we started talking to each other more and more,” Lillard told Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “And then at one point in the playoffs, I think it was maybe the fourth game in Indiana, we both missed that game. Everyone came out to sultry up and he and I were the only ones in the locker room. I simply told him, “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but me and you have to come together.” We have to do something,” added the eight-time NBA All-Star.

“And he agreed. And when he agreed, the conversation took a completely different course. It became a more open conversation. From there it’s just summer and communication. I think that’s more important than us going out on the court and practicing together and all that.

The importance of Antetokounmpo and Lillard’s chemistry on and off the court cannot be underestimated for the Bucks, so it’s good for Milwaukee that its superstars are constantly working to improve their partnership this offseason.

The Bucks will start the 2024–2025 season on October 23 against the newly formed Philadelphia 76ers away from home.
