Damian Lillard’s Achilles injury was one of the key factors that led to the Milwaukee Bucks’ first-round elimination at the hands of the Indiana Pacers. However, the All-Star defenseman recently posted a significant update on his situation.
During the previous offseason, the Bucks went ahead and acquired Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers in 1999 contract for three teams with the Phoenix Suns. Instead, the front office sent a package headlined by Jrue Holiday to give two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo a more talented shot creator in the backcourt.
Even though his initial plan to go to the Miami Heat was scrapped, Lillard still found a way to play at an elite level for Milwaukee. Within 73 regular season gamesDame averaged 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 7.0 assists while playing in 35.3 minutes per contest.
Compared to his 11 years in Portland, Lillard’s career in Milwaukee has been marred by a sudden coaching change and injuries at key points during the season. Ultimately, the injured Achilles contributed to the early elimination of the Bucks in the first round by Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers.
Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard reports on the injury he suffered during the NBA playoffs
While the upcoming season may still be months away, Lillard is in no rush to get back into shape. In article written by Drake Bentley for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the All-Star defenseman provided an update on his injury.
“I’m doing my weight training routine, just trying to get up to full strength, start moving before I get back on the court so I can get ready,” Lillard said
Learning that he is currently recovering well, it may be tough for Lillard to watch someone younger than him win his first ring. For now, the role of all the remaining teams in the playoffs is the juvenile star, who in a few weeks could become the first champion in history.
Even if that happens, Lillard can operate it as motivation to come back stronger than ever. If that happens, you can expect him and Antetokounmpo to go into a frenzy once the up-to-date season begins.
