Everyone trade gossip featuring Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis, the announcement was thrown chilly water on Tuesday night when ESPN’s Shams Charania said just before the NBA Cup championship game in Las Vegas.
“There will be no trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo this season” – Charania he said. “Between the cup and continued development… his priority is to put himself in a position where he can win long-term and continuously, wherever that may be. Right now it’s Milwaukee,” Charania added.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks turned things around
Discussion about a potential Antetokounmpo trade reached its peak during the Bucks’ early struggles in the 2024-25 NBA regular season.
Milwaukee managed just two wins in the first 10 games of the campaign, leading many to speculate whether the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player was frustrated to the point that he was considering filing for a trade. But, Charania said, it doesn’t look like the “Greek Freak” actually wants to get out of Milwaukee.
The Bucks seem to have righted the ship. Since starting 2-8, the Bucks have won 12 of 15 regular-season games, excluding an NBA Championship Game victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder by a score of 97-81.
Things are looking good for the Bucks again, so perhaps Milwaukee’s recent surge will also lead to fewer trade rumors surrounding Antetokounmpo.
Antetokounmpo, who signed a three-year, $175.37 million contract extension with Milwaukee in 2023, is playing at an MVP level this season, averaging 32.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game, and the effectiveness of field goals is 61.4%.
