Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has been very open about how much it means to him to represent his country at the Paris Olympics. This is the first time the former MVP has donned a Greek jersey in a back-to-back Olympics, and Giannis has made it clear that he doesn’t take the honor lightly.
The Bucks have been generous in their support of Antetokounmpo’s noble cause, but you can’t blame general manager Jon Horst for being a little wary of his star player.
Milwaukee Bucks News: Jon Horst’s Confession About Giannis Antetokounmpo
Horst, who is currently in Paris with coach Doc Rivers to support Giannis and the Greek national team, admitted in a recent interview that he can’t support but worry about Antetokounmpo’s participation in the international tournament. After all, there’s no way to predict what will happen.
“So this natural excitement will be balanced by this, I always worry when I look at guysin my position,” Horst said of his trip to Paris, via Eric Nehm of The Athletoc. “But this isn’t unique to the Olympics. This is every single day of practice. This is preseason game No. 1 and regular-season game No. 82, and I always get nervous watching him play. But it’s not just him. It’s every single one of our guys, and that’s the sport.”
Simply put, these are the rules of this job.
Truth be told, Horst wouldn’t be doing his job if he wasn’t concerned about Antetokounmpo’s health at the Olympics. But ultimately, the Bucks couldn’t stop Giannis from fulfilling his dream of representing his country on the biggest stages.
Antetokounmpo probably wouldn’t have let them stop him anyway.
