Milwaukee Bucks: Jon Horst breaks silence on failed Detroit Pistons trade

One of the biggest Milwaukee Bucks stories of the summer didn’t involve any of the players. It actually involved general manager Jon Horst and his rumored move to the Detroit Pistons.

According to reports, the Bucks were reluctant to let Horst leave and blocked a trade that could have involved a big-money move to Detroit.

Horst himself has broken his silence on the matter and decided to clear the air after it turned out to be quite a busy summer for him.

Horst confirmed in a recent interview that the Bucks never gave him a chance to even briefly talk about a potential trade to the Pistons.

“AND I never said to the Pistons,” he told Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “The Bucks didn’t let me, but they also expressed why they made that decision and how much they valued me and wanted me to be here in Milwaukee, so it was pretty quick on my part.

“When the Pistons came to the Bucks about their interest in me, I had a brief conversation with our ownership group, they told me what they thought and how they were going to approach it, and very quickly the conversation moved to the team in the offseason.”

The Bucks clearly had no intention of letting Horst walk and made that clear from the start.

At the end of the day, Horst is contractually obligated to the Bucks, so any move away from Milwaukee would have to be approved by the organization. For his part, Horst has also made his feelings about the Bucks clear.

“I have a lot of respect for Detroit, but I love Milwaukee and what we built and what we’re building,” he said. “As much as it’s been talked about and written about and all that, it was a really tiny part of my summer.

“I had no control over that, so I wanted to focus on our team and make sure I was focusing on the right things and how we could improve in the offseason.”

All of this is a testament to how valuable Horst is to the Bucks organization.
