Milwaukee Bucks: NBA analyst names the first free agent the team cannot let go

The Milwaukee Bucks face many questions about their lineup after losing to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. With Giannis Antetokounmpo missing the series with a soleus strain and Damian Lillard dealing with an Achilles tendon injury that sidelined him and narrow his mobility in other games, the Bucks’ lineup simply wasn’t good enough to compete with younger and faster players. Pacers.

There are some hard decisions to make before the offseason. While the core of Giannis, Lillard, Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez remains critical, many players are free agents and will have to re-sign on veteran minimum deals (the only contracts the Bucks can afford since they are in the second half of the season). . the NBA’s luxury tax on the salary cap) or being allowed to leave in free agency.

One of those free agents, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, recently tore his Achilles tendon and may miss the 2024-25 NBA season anyway. Another, Jae Crowder, doesn’t seem interested in returning to Milwaukee, judging by his recent social media activity.

Patrick Beverley wants to stay with the Bucks, but he also wants a raise. As mentioned, the Bucks don’t have the option to give him one. However, there is one free agent that one NBA analyst believes the Bucks should try to retain.

NBA analyst says Milwaukee Bucks need to bring back Malik Beasley

IN recent article in which he lists the first free agency move every NBA team should make, Zach Buckley Bleacher Report states that the one upcoming free agent the Bucks should do everything in their power to retain is Malik Beasley.

He’s writing:

“Milwaukee is already tight on money, which casts an ominous cloud over the unrestricted free agent status of several veterans. Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, and Jae Crowder have tickets on the open market, and it’s strenuous to imagine the Bucks paying anything to keep all three.

“Crowder has never been a fit on paper, so if the Bucks can only afford one, it would be between Beasley and Beverley. While the latter handled the heavier workload in the playoffs, the former still seems preferable.

“Beasley’s skill tree may not have many branches, but it is built around three orbs that typically range from toasty to warm. Since Milwaukee will never have many backstops around Giannis Antetokounmpo, it makes sense to prioritize their top scorer.

As mentioned earlier, Beverley also wants a raise this offseason, so he may not even be a topic of conversation for next season at first. However, Beasley signed a veteran-minimum contract last year and perhaps he can be convinced to do it again.

Malik Beasley had a decent season with the Milwaukee Bucks

After signing with the Bucks, Beasley was named their starting scorer and, after trading Jrue Holiday, their defensive stopper. Although his defense left much to be desired from the so-called stopper, no one can say he didn’t give his all.

However, when it comes to shooting, Beasley has been as good, if not better, than advertised. He averaged 11.3 points per game while shooting a career-best 41.8% from three. His 224 three-pointers that season were the second most in franchise history, behind only Ray Allen’s 229 points in the 2001-02 season.

Towards the end of the season, Beasley came off the bench while Beverley began to provide better defense. However, he has proven that he is more than capable of being a starting defender in the NBA.

Other teams will be able to pay him more, so if the Bucks want him back, they’ll have to do everything they can to convince him that another veteran minimum deal will be worth it for him.
