This Milwaukee Bucks didn’t have the year they envisioned heading into the 2023-24 NBA season. The Damian Lillard-Giannis Antetokounmpo pairing was expected to make Milwaukee a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. Instead, they lost in the first round of the NBA Playoffs (again) to the Indiana Pacers.
A lot of things went wrong last season. Adrian Griffin, despite going 30-13, was a failure as head coach. After Doc Rivers was hired to replace him, the team struggled to stay hearty. Giannis, Lillard and Khris Middleton played a combined six games under Rivers, including the NBA Playoffs.
Even the midseason acquisitions of point guard Patrick Beverley and forward Danilo Gallinari weren’t enough to keep the Bucks afloat.
Former Milwaukee Bucks point guard Patrick Beverley got into an altercation with Indiana Pacers fans
As fans may recall, the Bucks lost to the Pacers in six games in the first round of the NBA Playoffs in early May. Late in the final game of the series, a video was posted on social media showing Beverley getting into an altercation with several Pacers fans sitting behind the Bucks bench:

As seen in the video, Beverley was arguing with several fans and ended up throwing a basketball at one of them. After the NBA reviewed and investigated the incident, Beverley was suspended for four games.
However, he will likely never serve his suspension, as he recently signed a two-year, $4 million contract to play professional basketball in Israel.
In addition to the NBA’s investigation, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department also said it will investigate the incident to determine if criminal charges will be filed against the former Bucks point guard.

According to Nov 59 In Indianapolis, prosecutors declined to pursue criminal charges against Beverley following the conclusion of the IMPD investigation.
According to the report:
“Following a detailed review of the investigation conducted by law enforcement, it has been determined that no criminal charges will be filed in this case,” the prosecutor’s office said.
“No other information regarding the IMPD investigation was released. It is unknown if any civil lawsuits have been filed against Beverley in connection with the incident.”
While Beverley clearly made a mistake, it’s a positive sign that the Bucks can move past this incident without further ado.
Regardless, this incident won’t be forgotten in a hurry, and the Bucks-Pacers rivalry will certainly be a topic of conversation next season as both teams look to dethrone the Boston Celtics atop the NBA’s Eastern Conference.
