The Milwaukee Bucks are entering an offseason full of questions. While they don’t have the same coaching vacancy and search as last year, another loss in the first round of the NBA Playoffs left many frustrated with another wasted year of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s greatness. With the Bucks’ core not getting any younger, it is imperative to find the best way to construct the roster to bring another championship to Milwaukee.
Like every year, even in 2021 when they won the title, members of the national media are debating whether Giannis, a two-time NBA MVP, will request a trade and leave Milwaukee. The fact that he signed another supermax contract extension last year doesn’t seem to be relevant to these discussions.
But while fans outside the Milwaukee base and analysts dream of a Greek Freak in a different uniform, the eight-time All-Star has consistently reaffirmed his commitment to the city and the franchise.
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is making a bold promise to fans
On Thursday morning, Giannis took to social media to once again show the world where his heart is and where he plans to play. What’s more, he made a bold promise to Bucks fans about the aspirations he and the team are striving for:
Milwaukee, THANK YOU! This season didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but I promise we’ll be back where we belong and they’ll give us our damn flowers 💐 pic.twitter.com/lcvlNG5Hpn
— Giannis Antetokounmpo (@Giannis_An34) May 23, 2024
As seen above, Giannis thanks a city of Milwaukee and Bucks fans. While he admits that the season hasn’t turned out the way anyone wanted, he promises that he and the Bucks will bring the title back to the city soon.
It is worth paying attention to his exploit of the word “we”. He’s not suggesting he’ll win another title elsewhere. “We” refers to the Bucks and “where we belong” is at the top of the NBA after winning another title.
And finally, the statement “they will hand us our flowers” means that the national media will have to give him and the franchise the respect they deserve as perennial title contenders.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s post comes on the heels of reports that he is unhappy with his playing for the Milwaukee Bucks
Earlier this season, Bucks head coach Doc Rivers fired several assistant coaches who were on Adrian Griffin’s staff. One of them was longtime assistant coach and Giannis’ favorite, Josh Oppenheimer.
According to Gery Woefel, Giannis was not consulted regarding Oppenheimer’s dismissal and was not satisfied with the organization of the decision.
While this report may have led some to believe that Giannis was so dissatisfied that he might have requested a trade, it’s worth noting that his above post came a day after Woefel’s post about his dissatisfaction with the team. Clearly, any feelings of disappointment he may have felt about being fired far outweigh his desire to win another championship in a Bucks uniform.
