Milwaukee Bucks – The Washington Wizards trade report is gaining momentum

The Milwaukee Bucks are having another disappointing offseason. Since winning the championship in July 2021, the Bucks have been eliminated from the playoffs in the first or second round every year. While injuries certainly played a role in these qualifiers, it was painful every time.

Heading into the 2024-25 season, the Bucks are once again looking to drill their way back to the NBA Finals. One of the reports surrounding the Memphis Grizzlies is suddenly gaining momentum.

According to Dalton SwiftlFanSided:

The Washington Wizards will have four players hitting the free agent pool this offseason, and it’s challenging to imagine the Bucks selecting any of them. However, of this entire group, Tyus Jones seems to be the most suitable as a target and someone who would interest the Milwaukee Bucks, although it is still complex to believe that he will be given the green airy next season.

Over the years, Jones has proven to be one of the best backup point guards in the NBA. He is an elite passer, excellent at setting up teammates and rarely turning the ball over. He is also a capable scorer and perimeter shooter. He put it all on display last season in his first year as a full-time quarterback, setting career highs in several categories.

Jones will be sent back to his second unit in Milwaukee, and it will be complex to find a better general to command this brigade. He’s not an elite defender. At 6-foot-10, there would be concerns about him being targeted on that side of the ball, something the Bucks know all too well with their backup defensemen, but he could be a pest in that regard.

Ultimately, the Bucks will almost certainly not be hiring Tyus Jones next season, as nice as that would be. Some teams looking for their future point guard will likely be willing to pay to acquire him, and the Milwaukee Bucks simply can’t offer him that.

Would the Bucks sign someone like Tyus Jones?

After a long, successful stint as a backup for the Memphis Grizzlies, Jones joined the Washington Wizards last year. As a result of the Wizards’ rushing attack, he averaged 12.0 points per game, 7.3 assists per game and 1.0 turnovers per game. Standing at 6-foot-4, he showed some defensive tenacity, adding 1.1 steals per game.

Jones made 41.4% of his threes for the Wizards and 42.2% of his catch-and-shoot threes, according to Second Spectrum data.

Despite playing on a bad Wizards team, Jones was able to play well and put up stats.

Getting someone like Jones for Damian Lillard could make a huge difference to the Bucks’ rotation. It will be captivating to see if the Bucks address the backup point guard position.
