Overall, the Milwaukee Bucks’ offseason moves are seen as positive for the team in the upcoming season. However, that may not be the case for every member of the team going forward.
One man who could find himself sidelined is experienced winger Pat Connaughton.
Is there enough room in the Milwaukee Bucks rotation for Pat Connaughton?
Connaughton is entering his seventh season with the Bucks in 2024-25, and has become a favorite among the Bucks faithful. However, that may not be enough to guarantee the 31-year-old guard/forward significant minutes this upcoming season.
Rudy LB of Behind the Bucks Pass recently did an in-depth look at Connaughton’s potential role in Milwaukee in featherlight of Gary Trent Jr.’s free agent arrival. Things aren’t looking good for Connaughton.
“Signing Gary Trent Jr., who is undoubtedly more athletic than Connaughton, it doesn’t help with the idea that Connaughton could get more minutes this upcoming season. There is no question that Trent is younger. That will be something that will be key to a successful season. Youth coded as athleticism will be key for the Bucks,” LB wrote.
Connaughton has seen a steady decline in minutes over the past three seasons. Last year, the 6-foot-5 forward averaged 22.1 minutes on the court and made 1.1 3-pointers per game. Both his playing time and percentage from beyond the arc were the lowest since the 2021-22 season.
“If the Bucks can get their shooting off the line, [Damian Lillard]“With players like Trent, AJ Green, it would be easy to think these offseason moves don’t bode well for Connaughton’s future in Milwaukee,” LB concluded.
