Milwaukee Bucks work out former Wisconsin Badgers star and first-round NBA draft pick

This Milwaukee Bucks are working to improve their roster for the 2024-25 NBA season. This morning, it was announced that the team has agreed to a one-year contract with former Los Angeles Lakers forward Taurean Prince, who was a veteran. This latest signing helps improve Milwaukee’s bench, as Prince averaged 8.9 points and 2.9 rebounds while hitting 39% on three-pointers off the bench of Darvin Ham.

There are still a few roster spots to fill, though. While the Bucks have already signed former Miami Heat guard Delon Wright and Detroit Pistons forward Stanley Umude, they still have a long way to go before they feel comfortable with the roster.

One of the things they are focused on this season is finding more versatile players who can defend multiple positions and shoot from the three-point line. With that in mind, it seems like they have thrown out the senior Wisconsin Badgers star.

Former Badgers forward Sam Dekker is well-known to Wisconsin basketball fans. The Sheboygan Lutheran High School star was one of the state’s most popular recruits but committed to Wisconsin as a junior.

While with the Badgers, Dekker played a huge role on teams that appeared in two consecutive Final Fours. He was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 18th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

After four seasons in the NBA with the Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards, Dekker spent two seasons overseas playing in Russia and Turkey before signing with the Toronto Raptors in 2021, but appeared in just one game and was released before the season ended.

Dekker has spent the last few seasons playing for the London Lions but a change of manager at the club has left his future at the club in doubt, despite him signing a contract extension.

According to Mike Lucas from The times of hats, Dekker and his family are now back in the United States, and he recently trained with the Bucks and other NBA teams: “Dekker returned to the United States in late May and had NBA tryouts with the Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks.”

As mentioned, Dekker previously played for the Clippers early in his professional basketball career, and prior to the 2017-18 season, Los Angeles acquired him as part of the trade that sent Chris Paul to Houston.

The Clippers were coached by Doc Rivers, who is now the Bucks coach. This season, he averaged 4.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game.
