NBA analyst criticizes Milwaukee Bucks for indigent 2024 offseason decisions; play-in tournament team

This Milwaukee Bucks They didn’t have as great an offseason as they did last year. As many may remember, Milwaukee shocked the NBA by trading Damian Lillard tardy in the offseason. Before that signing, they re-signed key players Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez to multi-year deals. They also brought in veteran guards Cameron Payne and Malik Beasley on veteran minimum contracts.

At the time, all of these moves were highly praised by NBA fans and analysts. Unfortunately, none of them helped the Bucks win the NBA Championship outright, as they were, once again, eliminated in the first round of the Playoffs.

Currently, Milwaukee is in the NBA’s second luxury tax bracket and is unable to sign any free agents beyond those willing to play for the veteran minimum wage.

Milwaukee didn’t make many signings this offseason, but the two they did sign were clear upgrades over last year’s roster. Delon Wright was signed to be the team’s backup point guard. He brings improved defensive awareness and three-point shooting off the bench.

Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Taurean Prince also signed with the Bucks, following his former coach Darvin Ham to Milwaukee. He also brings a high level of defense and three-point shooting off the bench.

In addition to those signings, the Bucks also acquired two 19-year-olds, AJ Johnson and Tyler Smith, in the 2024 NBA draft.

None of these moves were sophisticated, and Milwaukee can’t afford to move big-name players at this point.

Still, one NBA analyst believes the Bucks are in for a major setback next season due to a lack of exhilarating offseason moves and a determination to win with the key players they have.

NBA analyst Tim Legler believes the Milwaukee Bucks are a team that will make the Play-In tournament

In a recent episode of his show All NBA PodcastsTim Legler said of the Bucks, “There wasn’t a single change that was a shot of adrenaline and excitement for me.” He added, “A lot of other teams have done that, but I don’t think (the Bucks) have. They kind of stayed put in a year that was disappointing.”

The Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks have made major trades and moves, significantly improving their rosters. The Boston Celtics, of course, are the defending NBA champions.

He then listed what he believed would be the Eastern Conference standings at the end of the season. Legler placed the Bucks in seventh place, which would put them in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
