Northern tactics secured victory for Canadian Jeff Gustafson at the Bassmaster Classic

The coveted Ray Scott Bassmaster Classic trophy is ornately decorated with images of famed southern anglers, but the 2023 version is now named after a northerner – and a Canadian at that.
Jeff “Gussy” Gustafson not only gave other classics in the Tennessee River system a lesson in precision, finesse fishing, but he did it using the “moping” tactic he had perfected after decades of fishing northern smallmouth waters. The Kenora, Ontario pro used wire-to-wire as he did on the same fishery during the 2021 Bassmaster Elite event there.
