Meet our member of the month, Inger Wilkerson,
author of the blog “The Art of Natural Living”.
What was your original motivation for starting a blog? What motivates you?
I used to be an IT director and people were always amazed that I was able to feed my family with homemade organic produce. I always thought a blog would be a good way to share what I’ve learned. I stay motivated because I really enjoy cooking and I still get excited when I find a great modern recipe!
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Anything seafood!
What was your biggest culinary disaster?
There was a recipe for creamed spinach soup that I made as a teenager and enjoyed sharing it with my children. They liked it quite well, until one day the spinach got a little stringy. I thought I’d be shrewd and fix it by blending it in a blender, but when I poured it out, I knew it was a bad idea. My kids called it “Creamy Pond Scum Soup” and they were right – it did look like pond scum!
Which Thanksgiving dish is a must for you?
I always bring a variety of cakes, and my favorite is the Betty Crocker French Apple Cake. I do the same as the original, but I don’t peel the apples. This is also my most visited post!
What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?
On Thanksgiving Day, I like to go around the room and ask everyone to mention one thing they are grateful for. After all, that’s the spirit of the day!
