Pheasant hunters opening their wallets gave Minnesota’s rural economy a cash boost last weekend, and a up-to-date report shows once again how large a contributor pheasant and blaster hunters are to America’s gross domestic product.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released its 2022 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife Recreation last week, a study that says hunting and angling contributed $145 billion to the U.S. economy. Wildlife viewing contributed another $250 billion. On a human level, 39 million people (15% of the U.S. population age 16 and older) participated in recreational fishing, and 14 million people (5.5% of the U.S. population age 16 and older) participated in hunting.
