Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst continues contract talks with quarterback Jordan Love and his representatives and said both the Packers and Love want a contract extension before the start of training camp.
Gutekunst outlined the contract schedule in interview with Steve Czaben and Brian Butch of 97.3 The Game in Milwaukee on Tuesday.
“We are having these conversations right now,” Gutekunst said. “The nice thing about it is that none of these things are uncomplicated or quick, but both sides want the same thing. We would certainly like to end this matter before the training camp, and both sides want the contract to be extended. The stability in this position really allows us to be confident that we are building our team.
Love, a first-round draft pick in 2020, was one of the best quarterbacks in football to finish his first year as the starter in Green Bay. He worked out his deal before the 2023 season and is now entering the final year of his current deal, but both Love and the Packers are working to sign a multi-year deal before training camp. Love’s annual pay could reach or exceed $50 million.
Both sides have time. The Packers don’t have their first training camp practice until July 22.
“We can’t wait for this to happen, but it never happens quickly,” Gutekunst said.
