Swinson’s departure allowed the Packers to fill out their practice squad by signing former Miami Dolphins quarterback Chris Brooks.

Players on practice squads can sign contracts and join 53-man squads elsewhere.

Swinson has played 28 snaps for the Packers in three preseason games. He hasn’t had a single catch, but his primary job is as a run-blocker in the line. Of those 28 snaps, 23 have been run-blocking snaps.

In Carolina, Swinson will join Ian Thomas, Tommy Tremble, Ja’Tavion Sanders and Jordan Matthews at tight end.

The Panthers waived veteran forward K’Lavon Chaisson to make room for Swinson.
