Packers officials list WR Jayden Reed as questionable for Colts game due to fresh injury

The Green Bay Packers have listed tight end Jayden Reed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts due to a fresh calf/shin injury.

Reed is one of three players listed as questionable by the Packers on the final injury report, joining quarterback Jordan Love (knee) and quarterback MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring). The game statuses for the three players will become clear when the Packers announce their inactive players about 90 minutes before kickoff on Sunday.

Reed, a 2023 second-round pick by the Packers, led the NFL in receiving yards in Week 1. He caught four passes for 138 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown. He added a 33-yard touchdown for 171 total yards on just five touches. Last year, Reed led the Packers in catches and touchdowns.

Injuries tardy in the week could be deadly to the game plan. Regardless of who is playing at quarterback, the Packers likely have a number of plays planned and ready to get out of Reed’s way against the Colts. With Reed’s questionable designation, he may not be available for Matt LaFleur and the Packers on Sunday.

If Reed can’t play, the Packers will likely give up more touchdowns to receivers Dontayvion Wicks and Bo Melton, and Malik Heath could get a good chance to see action for the first time this season. The Packers could also employ more of their 12-man staff — with two tight ends — and put Luke Musgrave on the field more often. Musgrave could play as a massive slot receiver.

Reed’s status would be even more crucial if Love is out and Malik Willis starts. Reed is a vigorous and versatile playmaker who would make life much easier for Willis, who has just three career starts.

Reed missed one game last season due to injury. He was questionable against the Carolina Panthers with a toe injury and didn’t play. Reed was questionable twice and ended up playing (against the Chiefs, against the Bears).
