Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur would not provide more details beyond saying his quarterback was “limited” during Wednesday’s practice, and Jordan Love would not go further than saying he is “day-to-day” as he recovers from a medial collateral ligament injury.
There is hope, however, that Love, who injured his knee in the season opener 12 days ago, will be able to return to action on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
“I’m going to take it a week at a time, just take it one day at a time, see how I feel,” Love said after returning to practice Wednesday. “I’m not going to make any decisions on that right now, hopefully I’ll get there, but we’re going to take it one day at a time and see.”
Love said his knee feels “a lot better” after rehabbing the past week and a half. He still has some work to do before he can play, but the workouts — and testing the knee with football moves and under fire — are a substantial step. Making sure he’s confident and able to protect himself is the next step. The Packers are monitoring the knee to make sure it’s healing properly, while Love increases his activity on the field.
Love said the injury in Brazil was the “worst pain” he had ever experienced on a football field. Late in the fourth quarter, Love was hit in the side of his left knee while trying to escape pressure, which caused a ligament injury.
During Wednesday’s practice, Love was spotted wearing a sleeve and brace to protect and stabilize his left knee. He said the brace — which he started wearing last week — could impact his mobility in and out of the pocket.
The Packers travel to Nashville to play the winless Titans on Sunday. The team will practice again on Thursday and Friday, with daily injury reports, before traveling to Tennessee on Saturday. Malik Willis will play again if Love is not healed by Sunday.
